NICOLE'S IDEA FOR HER LAW

It was the day of sentencing when Nicole's Asst. Prosecutor came up to her and said "Im afeaid that when your rapist gets out of jail he is coming back out Coming to get you again.  I need you to go get a final restraining order."  So with that we went to go try and get one.  The first question the lady behind the counter at family court asked us was was if Nicole and the person we were getting the restraining order against dating.  Nicole said no.  The person behind the counter said "SORRY then you cannot get a restraining order against him." Nicole and I just looked at each other in dis belief the lady saw me with tears starting to build up in my eyes.  I said to her  "you do not understand", and she said "sweetie, I have heard it all but if you want it bad enought you can always lie and say the two of them were dating."  I was shocked that those words even came out of her mouth.  I said "are you kidding me, thats what her whole case if all about."  she then preceded to say, "sorry then, sorry I could not of been more of a help."  I was never so mad and upset in my life, how was I going to make sure Nicole was protected now!!!!!!!  So I called my victim witness to tell her what happened and all she kept saying was Michele you got it, Michele you got it and I said got what and she said Nicole's Law and I said what do you mean, She said call Senator Singers office and ask them.  So I did.  A day later I received a phone call back that yes indeed I did it and did good  I got it Nicole's Law  A victims rights Law.  A surviviors rights Law and Nicole was one of the youngest in the country to write one........... Nicole and I did it!!!!!!  Nicole's Law A sexual assault restraining order law in the state of New Jersey  introduced October 30, 2006 the day before Nicole's rapist got of jail and got passed 10 months later August 6, 2007
